Valery Yuabov earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Computer Science from Queens College, CUNY, in 1983 and 1986, respectively. However, his life took a profound turn in 1993 when his mother, Ester, was diagnosed with stage four cancer. Choosing to forego chemotherapy and radiation, Ester opted for surgery only. On the recommendation of a relative, she and Valery traveled from the U.S. to their homeland of Uzbekistan to seek the guidance of a holistic practitioner and herbalist.
This journey led them to Dr. Mukhitdin Umarov, a renowned healer in the town of Namangan. Dr. Umarov’s exceptional skills in pulse diagnosis and his profound understanding of the human body were recognized worldwide. His clinic, nestled in a village-like setting, treated nearly 150 patients daily. Through the use of medicinal herbs, Dr. Umarov was able to help Ester maintain relative health for almost five years.
The experience had a lasting impact on Valery, who became Dr. Umarov’s apprentice during his mother’s treatment and for 15 years after her passing. Valery split his time between Uzbekistan and New York City, continuing his apprenticeship whenever Dr. Umarov visited the U.S.
In 2017, Valery completed his formal education in holistic medicine, earning a Master’s in Acupuncture from the New York College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (NYCTCM) in Mineola, New York. He then returned to NYCTCM to further his studies, obtaining a Master’s in Herbology with a focus on Oriental Medicine. Today, Valery runs his own clinic, specializing in acupuncture and herbology, while also collaborating with Wu Wei Wellness to consult on challenging cases.
