Gua sha or kerokan is part of traditional Chinese medicine, which uses a massage tool to safely and gently scrape the skin to relieve pain and tension and rejuvenate the body.
During the massage, the therapist carefully scrapes your skin to stimulate microcirculation of the soft tissue, which increases blood flow, and stagnant energy called chi. If chi is not allowed to flow throughout the body, practitioners believe it causes inflammation and many other harmful conditions. Rubbing the skin’s surface works to release this energy, reduce inflammation, and promote healing.
